Motivation—Acceptance: Naphtha believes Dr. Petrov to be her father, and wanted to be with him. Even though he attempted to destroy her, she still wants her father to accept her as his child.
Child: Naphtha has the mental maturity of a child.
Weakness: Cold, Electricity, and Heat all cause damage to the nanite colony that forms Naphtha’s ‘nervous system’. Fire causes catastrophic damage to her body. In either case, she suffers an extra degree of failure against such attacks, and may even be forced to expel the offending mass.
Naphtha is a constructed being, created from a combination of petrochemical mass and a nanite colony. Her natural state is a vaguely humanoid figure of an inky black color and non-solid appearance. With practice, she’s become able to take the appearance of a young girl with black hair and dark eyes with iridescent properties.
She was ‘born’ during an attack by Blackwater against the Thornton Industries Offshore Research Station, where her ‘father’ Dr. Petrov was forced to removed the hard-coded restrictions of a nanite colony that prevents them from creating a Gray Goo scenario. After the nanites were released, they began to convert the research station until they breached the drilling pipeline of the stations old oil rig configuration. The nanites reverted to their default programming after being introduced to the crude oil and attempted to absorb the mass. The experimental nature of the colony caused complications, however, and created a creature that sought it’s ‘daddy’. Leading the heroes of Everton to try and stop it. Repeated messages from them eventually got through to the colony and they were able to stop it until Dr. Petrov could be brought to her, whereupon he attempted to destroy her. After his arrest, a few remaining functional nanites were able to gather and request help from EVE, who took them to the Jabberwocky to recover.
